A Letter from the Founder

When people think about generational wealth, they often think about investments, taxes, estate planning, or financial markets.

These are important. But they are not where generational wealth begins.

In my view, it begins with ownership.

Every year, founders, business owners, families, and institutions make decisions that shape the future of their businesses, their wealth, and the people who depend on them. They decide whether to buy or sell a business, reinvest or diversify, retain control or invite partners, prepare for succession or postpone it, grow, transition, or simply wait.

Some of these decisions create opportunities that compound for decades. Others quietly limit future choices, reduce enterprise value, or place years of hard work at risk.

What has always struck me is that these decisions are rarely just financial.

They involve strategy, accounting, governance, psychology, leadership, family dynamics, risk, and long-term stewardship. They require judgment as much as they require analysis. Yet the guidance available to owners is often fragmented across different professions, each offering valuable expertise but naturally viewing the problem through its own lens.

That observation led to the creation of the Generational Wealth Institute™.

Our mission is to advance ownership decision intelligence through independent research, practical frameworks, and evidence-based insights that help people make better ownership decisions and achieve better long-term outcomes.

We are not a transaction-driven advisory firm, and we are not built around selling implementation services. We exist to study the decisions themselves—how they are made, why they succeed or fail, and what principles consistently lead to stronger outcomes.

Our work draws upon multiple disciplines because ownership itself is multidisciplinary. Strategy helps determine direction. Finance and accounting help evaluate economic consequences. Governance provides structure for effective decision-making. Psychology helps us understand judgment, behaviour, and bias. Leadership influences execution. Family dynamics shape continuity. Stewardship reminds us that many ownership decisions affect not only today’s owners but future generations as well.

This multidisciplinary perspective is reflected in our research team. Together, we bring experience from business, finance, strategy, governance, behavioural science, and academic research, united by a shared commitment to intellectual rigor, independence, and practical relevance.

Our ambition is simple, but long-term.

To build an institution that becomes a trusted source of ownership decision intelligence for founders, business owners, families, investors, and institutions around the world.

An institution that asks better questions before offering answers.

An institution that values evidence over opinion.

An institution that develops ideas capable of improving decisions for generations to come.

Whether you are building a business, preparing for transition, evaluating an acquisition, or thinking about the future of your family’s wealth, I hope the research, frameworks, conversations, and insights we publish help you navigate those decisions with greater clarity and confidence.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
